First time buyers - mortgage experience

We spoke with Olivia and Chelsea at Tembo and I cannot recommend them enough. Everything from booking in regular calls, taking the time to explain every detail and every possible option for us, keeping in touch over email to check in about how we were feeling - they were super informed, generous with their time, and just lovely people. Amazing service throughout

Tembo have been amazing throughout the process of buying my first home. My circumstances weren't straightforward, but Olivia was my mortgage advisor and she was so patient and helpful. There were several phone calls and updates over the course of a year as my circumstances changed and I was weighing up several different options. Olivia was always willing to run through the different options available to me and once I decided what I wanted to do she was able to secure me a great mortgage deal. My case was then passed to Chelsea who was super helpful throughout the rest of the process. This is my first time buying a home so I didn't know the steps or what to expect. Chelsea was very responsive, answering any queries promptly and linking in with the solicitors to keep everything on track. I would 100% recommend Tembo to friends and family and would use them again myself if moving house or remortgaging. Reviewed on: 3rd March 2025

Luke Bustin is a rare gem in the mortgage brokerage...

Luke Bustin is a rare gem in the mortgage brokerage industry. We found ourselves in a very difficult situation last year 2024 and the only option was to take a second charge secured loan on our property at an eye watering rate of nearly 10 percent. The plan was to remortgage when our deal came to an end and pay off the second charge secured loan. When the time came to remortgage, our main broker tried and told us that due to our credit scores being very low, the only option was to do a product switch with our current lender for a 2 year product leaving the second charge running and try again after 2 years. That was not what we wanted as the rate was 5.18% and we really wanted to clear the second charge loan so I tried speaking to several other brokers including Tembo. Whilst this was going on, our fixed rate deal ended and our mortgage payment nearly doubled. I spoke to all the big players in the industry and none of them could help me. Out of the blue, Luke Bustin called me and told me that even though he couldn’t help me previously, he’d been monitoring our situation and he believed that he could get us a mortgage with a high street lender. He put the application in and it went to underwriting. The mortgage got declined at underwriting due to some discrepancies in our payslips but Luke appealed. At this stage I’d lost all hope so I did what you should never do, I bought a car on finance. Luke came back and informed me after nearly 4 months that the mortgage had been approved but the car finance was reducing the mortgage amount by £25,000 so the car had to go. I sold the car and showed proof that the finance had been paid off and we got the mortgage offer. In all that time, I wasn’t charged a penny for all the hard work. Payment was only made after the mortgage offer was issued. Beware of brokers that charge money in the initial stages which is non-refundable if you don’t get an offer. I can’t thank Luke enough for his determination and hard work in getting us the offer after nearly four months and at a cracking rate as well. He took our case personally and was just incredible. If you need a mortgage/remortgage regardless of your situation just try Tembo and if you’re lucky enough to get Luke, I’m pretty sure you will get that mortgage/remortgage and if he can’t help you then nobody else can. At least it won’t cost you a penny until the mortgage offer is confirmed. Would also like to thank Abbey Ward, our mortgage case manager for all her help. 5* Service Beginning to End

When we first decided to apply for a mortgage we were weary about the process and constant paperwork. After signing up and got Bethany as our mortgage broker, she gave us the best service one could hope for. Her communication, experience, knowledge of various products and recommendations to fit our criteria was excellent. Her work ethic was top notch, even when we were not expecting a reply it was there.
