Review of the Aviva, Health Insurance:

Horrendous. Utterly diabolic!

1
Horrendous. Absolutely horrendous. A nightmare. Utterly diabolic system, specifically designed to put your in constant stress, strain and struggle, so you run out of energy and give up. I have been having Aviva health insurance policy for a few years at the time I had to make a claim. Everything was fine while I paid, its a big company, so you kind of thinking you are protected, they have such a nice and shiny web site… Then when you dare to make a claim, this is where a nightmare starts. 1. No one picks up the phone for hours. Literally, for hours. No customer service presence EVER. The phone automatic msgs constantly says they are extremely busy, whatever time and day you call. You need to wait at least 45 mins on the phone to get throgh to the real person (thats the quickest I ever managed to get through after my many efforts) Im pretty sure this shortage on staff and responce is there deliberately. 2. Once you made a claim on their web site, and added all supporting documents, including GP referral and previous tests and scans (its mandotory before they even look into your claim) they suppose to contact you within 7 days. Guess what? Noone does. You have to chase them. Again. Call and wait for hours or try to get throgh their chatbot on the web site. 3. The chatbot is another nightmare. Everything is made to kick you off and not get you through to the real person. It is really hard to get through their automatic system. Sometimes just impossible. It is also, Im sure, made deliberately. 4. Once you made a claim, they will start looking for anything, literally, anything in you medical record to reject the claim. Trying to say its pre existing medical condition and etc. They try really hard, mind you. 5. Once you managed to get through these previous steps, and your claim was accepted, you still cant go to the consultant, no. They need to AUTHORISE your treatment. Otherwise its not gonna be paid for you. And this is your owns fault if you went to the doctor before they authorised any treatment in their system. They also choose a hospital for you and provide you the names of the authorised consultant. Only after this you can call to the hospital and book the appointment with a consaltant they choose. 6. Same steps happen with everything, every appointment or test you need to make. Whether its scans or tests or doctor consultations. Time flies by, appointments are not happening immediately, and here we are many months after without health issue being solved or any real result. ;) Congrats. 7. After months and months of struggle with their system, my surgery have been eventually postponed by the Spire hospital on the last day before the actual surgery. 3 weeks after the surgery assesment they suddenly decided I have to go to see a cardiologist and a GP, just to make them feel safer with what they do. ;) I have done this. And guess what? To the time I have done this (it was another month or so) the consultant who was suppose to perform this surgery just left this hospital ;))))) The end. At this point I could stand it no more! So I went to Russia (this is where Im from), and in 2 weeks there they have done all the tests and scans from scratch, prepared me for the surgery and performed the actual surgery. Done. And guess what? It was free. After this I canceled this ridiculous, torturing insurance and never looked back.) Eveything is hard, to the extent, its too much effort to make anything work. This is made deliberately by Aviva, to kick you off when you need them and cynically get their profit. And when you having health issues the last thing you want is more stress, struggle and palaver in your life. Having health issies is streessful enough. Then Aviva just adds more streess and struggle in already very hard circumstances. The whole reason of having private health insurance in the first place, is to have a stress free healthcare and fast specialist appointments. This is not what this is about. They just take your money and dont care about the rest. They dont even pick up the phone. Reviewed on: 17th January 2025

Woeful Digital GP Service

Disgusting!

Wanted some preemptive counselling for my nine year old. They talked me round in circles and did absolutely everything they could not to help the child. Absolutely disgusted by them. Have left immediately. I just want health security for my family and am willing to pay yet I've just spent hours on the phone fighting for my daughter to no avail. Worse support that the poor NHS. At least the NHS Has its heart in the right place. I repeat: disgusting. Reviewed on: 18th May 2022

False assurances and mis-sold insurance

1
A complete waste of money! Beware when taking out a medical insurance policy to cover you in the event of illness and inability to work. At a time when you are unwell and at your most vulnerable, Aviva will not pay out for the first month and will keep you waiting without financial support for a number of months. They will also bring up your whole medical history and try to find an excuse not to support your claim. Reviewed on: 10th May 2022

The Worst! - try to wheedle out of paying legitiate clam

I took out Aviva Healthcare for me and my wife in April Last year - they asked about any conditions or treatments in the prior 5 years - I confirmed hat there weren't any. I renewed the policy last month and initiated a claim as my doctor had recommended a colonoscopy (Due to my dad dying of Bowel cancer 12 yrs ago), when I started the claim, they looked at my records and saw that I had previously had a colonoscopy July 10th 2016 - 6 Years ago.... they refused to honour the claim stating that I had had a a investigation (Which found nothing) withn 5 Years... I pointd out that it was 6 years ago... and they defaulted to he start date of he policy - April 24th 2021 - which was 4 Years and 10 months after my previous investigation ... and have now said that as I consulted my doctor.. I would have to wait another 5 years before they would consider covering this procedure how is this effective preventative support... in five years, a Polyp can go from being harmless to stage 4 inoperable cancer!!! Thieves

This Company took over my previouse insurer. I have been with them for 40 years and currently pay them £650 a month. You take insurance out for those occasiions when you need medical help especially life saving. A number of times over the last 40 years I have had to pay up to £3600 out of my own pocket. Now they have given 6 months notice they won't cover my heart condition. With insurance some people claim and some people like my wife never claim. Thats why we insure in the first place. This company is a disgrace and I wish I had never heard of them. If your thinking of useing them DON'T you will be sorry. Once they refuse treatment it's to late to go somewhere else and you can die for all they care. Reviewed on: 15th April 2022

Any means not pay

1
I cannot recommend this company based on my own experience, when I needed them most they basically called me a liar (without actually saying it) and said they couldn't pay based on we couldn't prove when the illness started, even though it was on my doctors record. Avoid these charlatan's. Reviewed on: 4th April 2022

Sneaky and dishonest

1
I have had numerous surgeries from 2010 so felt I would like to cover me and my husband going forward as we got older. I have only had call to phone in two years (and £3000) and have been dismissed by automaton customer service reps both times, who turn a genuine query or request for mere advice, into an interrogation about how long you have experienced symptoms, with the sole purpose to stitch you up by inferring everything is before you were insured, so you're not covered. As an extreme example I asked the representative if I came to them with a brain tumour, would me having a headache when I was seven count as a pre-existing condition, and, to her robotic credit, she said it would depend on my policy. Avoid. Reviewed on: 29th March 2022

Terrible Service. Waste of Money

Terrible service. You pay for health insurance make a claim and they just ignore you. Health insurance is supposed to make things quicker and easier to get medical care. Not with Aviva. Its just an exceptionally stressful experience. Reviewed on: 28th February 2022

Not worth the paper

The claims authorisation process is very long and drawn out. They will try their hardest to make claiming difficult for genuine and fully covered incidents. We have cancelled and concluded that self funding medical insurance is the way forward. Reviewed on: 10th February 2022
