Easy to open an account

I was a UK resident but not citizen recently arrived in the UK. I went to several banks to open an account but found them uninterested and unhelpful, except Barclays. Several years later I am still with them. Reviewed on: 15th February 2016

Absolute Garbage

We had been with Barclays for about 20 years, two decent wages being paid in every month, never overdrawn. Before we set off on a Round the world trip on our motorcycle we had a sit down meeting with someone from our local branch to make arrangements .. Added my Brother in law to the account to sort any unforeseen occurrences that we might not be able to do on the road. As soon as we left Europe the problems started, our card was stopped in nearly every country we entered even though we had given regular updates for the countries we were visiting, leaving us stranded at borders on 3 occasions because we couldn't pay for visas . My Brother in law was denied access to the account to pay for storm damage to our house even though he was named on the account. Charges on the account for using foreign ATM's were extortionate. Contacting the bank on the MANY occasions to reactivate our cards was a long and drawn out process at our (considerable) expense paying for International phone calls and faxes. On our return to the UK we visited our branch to try and fathom out the problems we had but nobody seemed interested. Not getting a reasonable response from Barclays we decided to close all our accounts and move to Santander (A much better bank) 20+ years with a bank and they didn't even try to keep us as a customer .. I've held a bank account with Barclays for a good many years and never had one cause for complaint. The staff at my local branch are polite, efficient and always ready with a smile and a pleasant word or two. Reviewed on: 14th November 2016

Blocked my account with no reason or notice

Blocked my bank account still haven't gave me a reason, refusing to give me my own money from my bank what I work for. Customer service on the phone is a load of crap, rude staff and don't know what they are on about. Once this is sorted I will be moving banks elsewhere. Crap bank Reviewed on: 8th November 2016
