BBS were great for our guest house mortgage

Bath Building Society was very flexible and set up a mortgage for our guest house. All the other lenders we approached (Lloyds, Natwest, Halifax etc.) were unable to help because we didn't fall into a standard tickbox category. The rate was always competitive, we had a series of discounted rate deals. Been with them for about 20 years. I highly recommend BBS. Reviewed on: 24th April 2025

First class service

Prior to my application with Bath, I had applied with one of the major lenders but was Essentially through that process messed about. I decided to go with Bath and felt thoroughly supported and kept in the loop through the process. My solicitors comments were that this was by far the best mortgage firm they had dealt with. Building height restriction is too strict for 2022

The online chat was great and helped me get a quick answer to my question but the reason I wouldn’t be able to recommend Bath Building Society to friends and Family is due to the strict building height rules for lending criteria. They do not lend on buildings over 6 storeys high which in today’s economy especially for borrowers in London; is extremely unhelpful as most London new builds are well over 10 floors. Other than that, I thought they would have been a great lender option so it’s such a shame! Reviewed on: 31st October 2022
