Five star interest rate

5
Super savings account with 5 % interest but only on a maximum deposit of £2500 with total yearly interest of £125 earned. Only slight downside is that the headline interest rate of 5% lasts for one year only. So on opening anniversary you have to close the account and re-open a new one to continue getting 5% and importantly this needs to be either single/joint to joint/single in order to meet qualifying terms Reviewed on: 24th December 2016

Overall a good bank to deal with

Any contact I have had on the telephone has been positive. The only gripe I have had is that the cashier at a branch wouldn't accept a cheque over the counter, I had to use the machine. The machine had ran out of envelopes so I had to go back in to the branch. It was just a pain for something that should have been so simple. Reviewed on: 27th November 2016

DO NOT USE

1
Do not risk your money. Nationwide treat customers with absolutely no respect, have no customer complaints department, and pass everything to the ombudsman as it is easier than dealing with it. They incorrectly removed the agreed 5% interest rate from my accounts with no warning - paying only 1% despite sending documents stating the accounts would each earn 5%. I complained by phone, by going into branch, and via their online customer service team (twice). I was told the rate should be 5% but no one corrected it. The online complaints team completely ignored me and did not even send an acknowledgment. I was shocked and appalled by this, so I persisted. It took months of continued complaining for them even to look at the issue, and the people who dealt with it do not deserve their jobs - initially they sent their final offer letter and told me to contact the ombudsman. I persisted as they had not even opened an investigation and found the ridiculously named customer excellence department - could not write an email - did not investigate what had happened - did not review my complaint - treated me in a completely disrespectful way, and - made no apology for their error or handling of the complaint It is amazing they are still in business, but I only knew they had reduced my interest rate when I checked my online account. Others may not check. There are many other banks that treat customers fairly and with respect so I urge you to use them instead. Reviewed on: 21st November 2016

Easiest Current Account I've Used

5
Switched to Nationwide just over a year ago & wished I had done this sooner. I have total control of my money via their app / online platform (this includes my Current Account, Savings & Credit Card); something I've never had with previous banks Reviewed on: 3rd November 2016

Total Shambles

1
I have been trying to set up a Nationwide FlexDirect account for about 4 weeks (seems like a lot longer). The hoops you have to jump through are ridiculous. You have to visit a branch with ID. Send for a card reader, post off an acceptance of Terms & Conditions, then wait for every thing to be posted back. You then try to use the Internet app and find you have to register for it on line, only the website will not let you register for 7 days. I rang up to cancel the account because of all the hassle I have had and the assistant could not get me through to the dept I needed to deal with. She suggested I do it on line at which point I buried my head in my hands and then explained that I could not do it on line due to the problems I had already outlined. AHHHHHHHHHHHH!! Do not bother with Nationwide, life is too short Reviewed on: 2nd November 2016

Awful

Have been trying to open an account with them for over 2 weeks. A complete shambles. Latest , I had a call from them yesterday saying they had lost the terms and conditions I had signed in store and would I go in and sign it again! Reviewed on: 21st September 2016

Shrewd Banking

Great account for making your money, make some more money... How can you not love the 5% interest on up to £2,500(sadly only for 12 months, then drops to 1%) Just a £1000 pay in each month is all you need. Reviewed on: 19th September 2016

Hassle free banking

5
Nationwide made it super simple to switch my current account. I currently get 5% interest on my balance up to £2k, and have opened up a Help-to-buy ISA through their online banking system. Nationwide have made banking hassle free for me; a far cry from my previous experiences with Barclays. I also received £100 for switching, as did my sister who referred me. Win-win! The Peoples Account

5
I have been with Nationwide now for 3 years and have 2 accounts with them. If I have ever had a reason to speak to them they are always very willing to help and in a good patient manner. Always treated with respect and courtesy - feel like I am a person not just a user of their products/services. I call them the Peoples Bank as it is run for the benefit of people as members decide how it runs. AGM are held annually all members can have a say and we are listened to.
