Miles ahead

I was previously with a huge insurance company. During COVID I called as was working from home and not driving so hoped for a smaller monthly premium. They put it up by £12 ! By miles is up there with the invention of electricity. Game changer. App is user friendly, easy to sign up for and box actually doubles as a tracker if your car goes walk about. Cheers guys! What a great idea! Only pay for the miles you drive -what’s not to like? Apart from that, the app shows where you’ve driven and another bonus…as my daughter both drive the car, the app even shows me that they’ve arrived safely. Truly genius! Reviewed on: 4th August 2021

Fantastic concept with a few rough edge stuff

My By Miles experience has been great - a truly innovative approach to car insurance that treats cover like any other utility - pay as you use by mile, and a standing charge for when your car is sat doing nothing. Customer service has been good, not outstanding. The dongle that connects to the on board diagnostic socket in your car didn’t fit my modern 2018 Passat, and so I was sent an extension lead with an adaptor which occasionally drops into the footwell and gets in the way of the accelerator pedal, and looks unsightly. I was asked at one point whether I’d like to cancel my policy instead of a proper attempt by By Miles to fix the problem, which left me feeling a little cold. Hopefully this has been the result of teething problems in getting the company up and running, combined with a customer service operation that needs an injection of energy and commitment to customer delight… we’ll see (I haven’t cancelled my policy yet)!
