By Miles provide car insurance aimed at low mileage drivers.

By Miles charge a fixed cost that covers a car while it’s parked. The rest is based on the actual miles driven. Customers can either plug in the matchbox-sized Miles Tracker, or for newer cars, you can connect By Miles directly with your car’s mileometer.

Fantastic concept with a few rough edge stuff

My By Miles experience has been great - a truly innovative approach to car insurance that treats cover like any other utility - pay as you use by mile, and a standing charge for when your car is sat doing nothing. Customer service has been good, not outstanding. The dongle that connects to the on board diagnostic socket in your car didn’t fit my modern 2018 Passat, and so I was sent an extension lead with an adaptor which occasionally drops into the footwell and gets in the way of the accelerator pedal, and looks unsightly. I was asked at one point whether I’d like to cancel my policy instead of a proper attempt by By Miles to fix the problem, which left me feeling a little cold. Hopefully this has been the result of teething problems in getting the company up and running, combined with a customer service operation that needs an injection of energy and commitment to customer delight… we’ll see (I haven’t cancelled my policy yet)! A perfect insurer who is upfront with all costs and provides fantastic customer service to assist and deal with any queries.
