The Dudley is yet another society that seeks to indulge itself at the expense of Members

1
The Writer has little to do with the Dudley currently. They are a Member, however a poor attitude from branch staff in the recent past, who are probably very complacent as it is asserted is this board in their jobs, has resulted in a reduction in business between the parties. Whilst the Member notes that fortunately this society has not got involved in identity politics like a major building society competitor in the midlands the make of the board does not represent the demographic in the UK as a whole. There is a majority of women board members and about 30% of the board is asian. This does not reflect the demographic in the country. The Member takes the view that the board take the membership for granted. This is common in building society's as a whole. They appear to be run for the board, their friends and the causes that the board in their view deem as worthy. This must stop. The Members must be heard. Reviewed on: 20th June 2021
Reply from Dudley Building Society The Society places great importance on the diversity of both its Board and the wider employee base, and is keen to ensure that they represent the Society’s member base and wider demographic where possible. The Society believes an effective Board should be reflective of the full range of diversity including age, ethnicity, gender, religion and disability as far as possible and considers that a diverse Board is important for improving decision-making and providing effective challenge. Diverse Boards, made up of specialists with different skills, knowledge, experience and values will support different perspectives being discussed about business operations and strategy which will improve the Society. The Board is regularly presented with a report on the Diversity and Inclusion of its people with any areas of concern being addressed within the Nomination Committee. The Society ensures all its policies and processes are developed to encourage genuine impartiality and inclusion and this forms part of an annual development programme on Diversity and Inclusion for all employees. We expect all of our people to demonstrate an inclusive culture and treat our members and colleagues with respect; by listening to different viewpoints, opinions, thoughts and ideas we believe the Society benefits from its diverse workforce. We acknowledge there is so much more work to do within society generally, however Dudley Building Society is committed to continue to operate a culture which sees value in adopting diversity and inclusion practises wherever possible. If you would like to discuss any of your concerns in more detail then please send your contact details to [email protected] and we would be happy to arrange a call to discuss this further.
