Great service compared to the mileninals

I've been a first direct customer for around 30 years and they still rock. They do however have some competition with the likes of Monzo doing great things with their app. The key difference is when things go wrong with Monzo you have to deal with their appalling customer service which is smug and staffed by children. first direct still employ grown-ups who fix things without banal comments. Past their sell by date

I have been a loyal customer of First Direct for 32 years. They are an excellent telephone bank (although sometimes it takes ages to get through) but they have not kept up with the times and the move to digital banking. Although they have an app it is not customer focussed, very clunky and not friendly to use. Their customer service is excellent and you always get a helpful friendly person to speak to but when I telephoned to set up a standing order recently and was pushed in the direction to do it myself on the app and would I like help I realised that it was time to move on. For anyone else that recognised the change then look at Starling Bank. They are leading the way with digital banking in the manner that First Direct did with telephone banking 30 years ago. 1st Account

First Direct were one of the first internet banks and at the time were innovative. They have always been easy to get hold of although the cost of the call if you need to ring is not ideal. I struggled a little getting my account converted to a joint account as there was no High Street Branch to take in documents and to chase the process, however, on balance I would say I have been happy with the bank Reviewed on: 21st January 2020

Ive been with other banks in the past, but Ive been with First Direct for many years now. I have quite a few different accounts, and use many of the different banking features, ie transfers, savings, joint account, credits cards, Standing orders, Direct debits, online chat and phone support occasionally. It is hard to find a single problem. There are a couple of online system designs i would like changed but there isnt one system that suits everyone 100%. For example if you want to transfer some money from an account to a credit card, and there are more than one credit card in your family, you cant easily tell which one is which on the payment list, they have the same numbers. Also you cant rename an account, for example if you have multiple savings accounts you use for different reasons, they will all look the same. But honestly, this is the best bank by miles.
