What a way to treat old people

My mother of 90 years who doesn't have WiFi rang Halifax to close her account and have her money transferred to her NatWest account. The lady said you can't close your account without a pin number she said she will send one then she can close her account. Five days later the pin number arrived. She then rang Halifax to close her account. The lady this time said you have to write to the account closing team. She wrote to the team saying she wants to close her account. When she got the reply it said she will have to send proof. So she sent proof of photo driving licence, disabled letter, and council tax letter. Then two weeks later another letter saying she needs to send utilities bill and more. It has been over eight weeks and they still won't transfer her money. She is now in hospital with a broken leg and shoulder after falling down and Halifax said she can close her account in the Halifax bank which is 15 miles away and she is bed ridden. What a disgusting way to treat old people just to keep their money. I have three accounts in Halifax and now closing them. Beware any old people Halifax will do their best to keep your money. Left me concerned about identity theft

Requested copies of all personal documents to set up daughter's account - never received paperwork. Followed it up and they said we would have to provide it all again as they couldn't find it!! Didn't seem bothered that it was missing and didn't want to take blame, or concerned about identity theft! Went elsewhere. Reviewed on: 18th February 2016

Very helpful counter staff in my local branch

Halifax have a good range of products like many of the big banks, but I have found the staff in their branches very helpful on more than one occasion. Whether it be opening new accounts or the more unusual task of ensuring a maturing account gets transferred to a specific account on maturity they seem to be very efficient. A mistake was made on opening my account but a subsequent visit quickly sorted it out. I also like the fact that they have separate staff by the door to help with enquiries rather than having to queue up at the paying in counters. Reviewed on: 27th August 2015

Mobile app comes in really handy!

Whilst I've had an account for many years without any issues, a more recent helpful addition I've started to use is the mobile app. Generally its a really good tool for moving money around my various accounts quickly and means I can keep a constant eye on my savings. Reviewed on: 25th August 2015

shame about interest rate

Easy to use saving account , was opened online and accessed online. Never had any issues with this account just wish the interest rate was a tad better. Reviewed on: 10th August 2015

Long time happy savings customer

Been a savings customer since I was a kid and never had any issues. Online system works really well and whenever I've had queries the branch staff in Middlesbrough are really helpful although waiting times can be long. Reviewed on: 2nd October 2014
