Harpenden Building Society is a mutual and should remember to put the interests of members above corporate performance. Stop this constant introduction of new higher interest accounts which leave behind existing accounts which continue at much lower rates. The policy is quite deliberate and is disgraceful for a mutual. Reviewed on: 26th October 2023
Reply from Harpenden Building Society Thanks you for your feedback, and I'm sorry to understand you are unhappy with the pricing of our products. We have recently introduced two new products, a 90 Days' Notice and an Online ISA account. Our 90 Day's notice account is paying a rate of 5.50%. As part of this launch, we also increased the rate of all of our previous-issue 90 day accounts so that existing customers will be earning the same as new applicants. We would also waive any notice periods for existing customers who wish to transfer to this product. The Online ISA is priced to represent the limited access and distribution of this product and for customers who are happy to apply and manage their accounts online. We have recently updated our processes to allow customers to apply for new products without he need to complete a full application form. We have and are continuing to make significant changes across the savings range, and as a result 99% of our savers are getting a higher than average savings rate. We have also recently added a feature to our website to encourage customers and non-customers to register so that they can stay informed of Harpenden Building Society news. This will include new product information and how to apply for new products. Cash Machines are both hugely expensive to purchase and to manage, in addition to this we would need to make significant changes to our infrastructure to allow our customers to use these. As always, we have to consider the needs of all 20,000 of our members before commiting to thse big ticket items. That being said, there is potential for us to do something along these lines- the project is still very much in its early stages, but watch this space. Thanks again for your feedback. Unfriendly web application

Whilst applying for a bank account it said you could edit pages, if you clicked edit the whole application blanked, not very helpful. Reviewed on: 25th October 2023
Reply from Harpenden Building Society Hi Eileen, Thank you for your feedback and I'm sorry to understand that you experienced issues when you edited your details. That sounds incredibly frustrating so can empathise with you. The system should only reset if you edited your initial details (i.e. opening deposit and source of funds). As the product selection is included within this, the system will take you back to the original application screen as it requires you to confirm that the account selection is correct. We are aware that this can be improved and is on our road map for future development. That being said- the system should remember the majority of your details on application so that if you decide to edit, you don't need to re-enter all your details.
