Dealt with quickly and easily

When my car insurance policy was up for renewal, Hastings Direct sent me my renewal quote. I went onto a comparison site to check what other quotes I could get and found they were much cheaper. I called Hastings customer services and told them how cheap the other quotes were, and complained about my higher renewal quote. They apologised profusely and said they would be able to give me a cheaper renewal if I would consider staying with them. Reviewed on: 9th July 2017

Failing to respond

They never answer my calls, and when I had an accident that wasn't my fault, they ignored paperwork meaning I couldn't claim. Reviewed on: 8th July 2017

Car insurance

I pay extra for add ons to my insurance such as roadside recovery and recently they've reduced how far away from home I can be for that recovery so I'm not too impressed by that. However, my renewal paperwork came through the post and they wanted to charge me an extra £200 per year despite me having 4 years no claims and 2 of those years being with Hastings. So I called in and they managed to get my premium price down by £500 per year. Safe to say I decided to stay with them for a 3rd year. Their customer service is good although due to high volumes of calls the length of time you can be waiting to speak to an advisor can be quite long on occasions. Reviewed on: 8th July 2017

Initially cheap, but then they misled me when making a claim

Hastings Direct were initially cheap compared with other providers but when I called for advice upon returning to the car to see a trolley dent in it, they misled me into making a claim (in their words I was given "incomplete information"). After going through the complaints procedure and Ombudsman I received a total of £150 compensation which is nowhere near enough to cover me for the rise in premiums in the 5 years in which I will have to declare it. Wouldn't use them again if they were half the price of competitors. Reviewed on: 5th July 2017
