Small is beautiful

I was approached to write a review because I closed an account. The account type in question was Easy Access Cash ISA. I closed it because it had only a small balance, it attracted a very modest rate of interest and I had neither deposited nor withdrawn for seven months. However, the catalyst to closing the account was opening another one, this time Postal Savings 35 Issue 2. This account presented the opportunity to deposit a good lump sum on medium-term call-up at an attractive rate of interest. And I love the concept of transactions by post only! I have tried to support the Mansfield over the years because I do believe that small is beautiful. In this regard, I remain disappointed by a decision the Society took some years ago to appoint London-based auditors rather than a local firm. If you wish to promote a local image, you should put your money where your mouth is. Otherwise, I have nothing but praise for the Mansfield. I believe its range of accounts to be attractive, it seems to be well-managed and the re-vamping of its corporate image in the green livery is a masterstroke. Friendly and efficient service

Recently opened a online regular savings account

Has not moved with the times

Had good rates on monthly savers, but still insisting on passbooks, and ID such as printout of pdf from on-line account to be sent through post. Absolute limit of ridiculousness, was when closing my account I was required to pay £10 for a replacement book just to have it stamped closed. Fortunately this was refunded after I lodged a formal complaint, but it should not have been necessary in the first place. Reviewed on: 30th May 2023

Our charge for replacing a lost passbooks is a standard fee for all members, although in this instance, we could have been more flexible from the outset to allow you to close your account more smoothly. We will learn from this experience to ensure other savers do not face excessive administrative burdens when closing their accounts. Response date: 1st June 2023
