Mettle has helped me in my new role as a small business owner and being self employed. It works incredibly well and I feel a sense of safety that my money is saved with Mettle. Also helpful with potential tax returns. I don’t know all the functions yet with my account but Mettle was recommended to me by a friend who uses it for his own business. Great value banking for sole traders

I’m very happy with Mettle, which was provided free by NatWest (so great value for money!). The link with FreeAgent software works very well, for the most part (there are a few categories which require manual entry), but the ability to upload and photograph receipts is a godsend. More recently Mettle have started paying interest on savings pots, which is a nice bonus. I would be very happy to recommend Mettle to anyone starting out as a sole trader. Everything works as I expect.. All good. I wish you could ask a payment to come straight out of a pot, but I do like the pots and that you could see all your bank details to make new payments from the app, rather than needing my physical card. Reviewed on: 29th January 2026
