Monzo offer a free bank account for under 16s, with controls set by their parent or guardian.

Kids get their own neon card and can see their money in the Monzo app. Parents or Guardians can keep an eye on the account, set spending limits and schedule pocket money.

I have Monzo accounts for all my kids, this was the only bank I could find that would allow my kids to add their cards to the phones to use contactless. I honestly love how Monzo is set up, love the layout and features in the app. I have since moved my whole banking from starling to Monzo and never looked back. We now also have a joint account, an ISA and a few savings pots set up. I really couldn't recommend it highly enough. It's soo easy to use. I've also made good use of using my card abroad with no additional fees. Reviewed on: 20th March 2026

The under 16s account is a really good addition. It’s free compared to some competitors and it’s great how my child can see their balance on the app. Really user friendly and the additions of the saving pot with the characters is also great. The physical card is also a hit for contactless spending! Reviewed on: 20th March 2026
