It was 6 months ago that I first encountered the National Debt Line. I guess I thought I was doing OK money wise, I often paid the minimum amount on my debts but sometimes missed a payment or two. Well the default charge was only £12 so well worth it! Then, 6 months or so ago my health suddenly took a turn for the worst and for the first time, I shared my money problems with my partner, He enabled me to see that I was was nearly £20.000 in debt to a number of credit cards, store cards and buy now pay later schemes with no where near enough pension income to properly repay the debts. Many of my cards were "maxed out" and I struggled to find the money even for food. He contacted NDL who were wonderful, they helped me prepare a proper budget and provided guidance on how to approach these companies and how to much better manage my money. I have still to resolve all my debts but NDL are there if I want further advice. I have a healthy bank balance now (something I've not had for years) and I don't buy things on credit, including buy now pay later. I can't thank NDL enough. Reviewed on: 6th June 2026
