I met staff of Newbury Building Society at Abingdon Air Show and liked the sound of the account which I subsequently opened in branch. The service I received in branch was very good and the whole process was very smooth. Since then I have used internet access which again is very user-friendly (I'm not computer-savvy, so need simple systems!). Reviewed on: 4th January 2018

Opening account online

It was a simple process to open a new account online. There was a few days delay before details came through on how to transfer money into the account. I assume you would be able to pay money in immediately if you open in branch. Reviewed on: 5th February 2021

Opening an ISA account in lockdown

This is in two parts. 1. The actual process was difficult because of lockdown and the unscheduled closure of the Abingdon branch when i was able to visit the branch. So everything had to be done by post (also not so good under lockdown) and finally neatly sorted by scanning a document and sending it by email. All done now. 2. All the staff I dealt with were very helpful and patient with a grumpy (I suspect!) old man . Eventually I got my account opened and it is now in action. Thank you to all who I had spoke to. We called into our local branch to open 2 new accounts and were given a comprehensive document folder containing all the information needed as well as application forms. We returned the completed application forms the next day and our passbooks were received in the post 2 working days later. Reviewed on: 28th January 2021

struggle to Open Account

Struggled to Open an Account with Newbury Building Soc on-line despite other banks and B.S. allowing me to open an account on-line without problem. N Building Soc needed further identification. Then slow to respond back. Nearly gave up and took my business for the same Interest Rates elsewhere. Reviewed on: 26th January 2021

Efficient and Professional Service

From the start the process was clearly explained. The Covid safe working practice were explained when I was in branch and over the phone customer service enable a well explained setup of my new accounts. It was the confidently and expertly explained options available to me that were the reason I have opened two accounts and plan to transfer my ISA to Newbury in the next financial year. Online banking issues

I registered for online banking last week. Today for the first time I went online, I did make a mistake with my password and the account was locked. I contacted the savings team, and someone unlocked my account. I tried again, and the account was still locked. I tried calling again, and twice after holding on for 20 minutes my call was cut off. I then rung in my local branch - Basingstoke, who said they would email the accounts team to unlock my account. She said someone would contact me this afternoon, so we will have to see.
