Lovely people.

The reason for four stars is because they are not linked into the Banking circle where Barclays recognises their sort code. Also sending money to them takes longer than normal. This resulted in my having to phone Newbury BS to see what had happened to the money I had transferred. I spoke to a charming lady called Stacey who allayed my fears. She was even kind enough to phone me the following day to assure me all was well. Great service. Reviewed on: 22nd January 2021

Need to improve processes and communications.

Opened the account online without difficulty but then the problems started. The account appeared in my online profile but the confirmation of opening screen told me I would receive a secure message when I was able to pay money. I did not get such a message, and still do not have it over a week later. I had to ring the online team, then the local branch three times before I could be sure it was safe for me to pay money in. A letter confirming the account was open arrived in the post today, 11 days after opening the account. I was told that a high number of new account openings had delayed the process but this is the first time I have ever had such a delay and confusion on opening an online account, which should only take moments to confirm everything online. There is a need for process changes here. Very frustrating. But the reasonable account rates, and a local presence (with great staff), nevertheless merit a "7" rating overall. New Customer

I wanted to open a new savings account with Newbury, which could not be done online. I contacted the branch in Basingstoke (not on hold for long) and the person I spoke to explained the easiest way for me to achieve what I wanted. I sent my application and received a paying-in book by return - very speedy response. I have now applied for online access and am waiting for that to be approved/set up - hopefully as quickly as the initial application. As lots of financial institutions (& others) seem to be struggling to provide customer support at this time I was very impressed with the response I got from Newbury BS. Easy process although with one reservation

I opened a second ISA account. The process was straightforward until it came to adding funds. When I entered my bank sort code the system brought up the wrong branch address. I knew this would not be a problem as my wife had the same issue and contacted our local Newbury office about it and was re-assured, so I knew it was not a problem. But it did make us stop and wonder about the whole system, but everything worked as expected anyway. Reviewed on: 9th January 2021
