Review of the Post Office, Savings:

Incompetent system failures

1
Trying to open a joint online savings account: I got all the way through the application process with no problems to the very end, when I was asked to provide a 6-digit security number for each of us. The number simply would not enter; no matter what I tried it would only take 3 digits and no more. If I tried to accept the randomly-generated number offered by my browser, it reduced it to two or one digits. With no other way forward I got on the phone and described my problem (which I had to explain several times). The assistant suggested I try refreshing the page. Unfortunately when I did that I lost the two User ID numbers we had just been given, as a blank screen came up saying 'We are experiencing a technical failure'. I asked the assistant if she could access the User ID numbers for us, but she couldn't. She suggested sending out two security numbers by post, so we had to wait 5 days. When they arrived, of course there was no ID number on the letters, so I was still unable to access the account to set them. I got on the phone once more, and the assistant suggested I at least look at one of the security numbers by peeling off the black strip. Second problem: There is no number there. They have sent out two sheets of A4 paper under separate cover, both with a plastic strip with a black pattern on it. I thought I might start again from scratch. But now the system has our details it is asking for my security number. I tried clicking on ‘Forgot login details', but that will just involve waiting another 5 days for another pair of blank sheets of paper. So we will put our money elsewhere. PREMIUM BONDS

Put all your savings in Premium Bonds. 100% safe, and if you are like me, a steady supply of £25 , £50 , and £100 wins keep coming in, with the possibility of a million pounds. Don't be put off by "experts" who say you'll never win! I win almost every month, topping any interest rate you can get elsewhere. Reviewed on: 31st March 2017
