Review of the RAC, Car insurance:

Appalling service - dishonest and disinterested. Avoid.

My daughter took out a car insurance policy with RAC. A couple of weeks after setting this up they contacted her to say that it was cancelled with immediate effect because of an undeclared and unresolved claim against her. In fact this was entirely incorrect and was due to an error by her previous insurer (Admiral) who had said they would remove it from their records and then failed to do so. She contacted Admiral who contacted the RAC to confirm this fact. She the asked RAC to restart her policy as this had clearly been an error. They said they could not restart a cancelled policy but would have to quote on a new one - which they did for a cost 3 or 4 times more expensive than the one just cancelled. When she asked why they said it was because she had a cancelled policy - which she did: cancelled by themselves because of provenly incorrect data sent by another insurer! The computer said no and that was that. They agreed to refund her money but did so minus £250 which they said they could charge because of this - totally unnecessary- cancellation. When she complained a few days later the person she spoke to agreed that in the circumstances they would refund the amount. This never materialised and when she enquired was told that this person should not, in fact, have authorised it and it had been cancelled. After issuing a further complaint she was told they would look at it again and get back to her in 6-8 weeks - which, of course, they have not done. I wrote to them on her behalf as well but have not even had the courtesy of a reply. Basically, they have misappropriated £250 of her money due to an error in the information sent by her previous insurer which that insurer very promptly confirmed. Disgraceful service and I would urge anyone to think very carefully before giving their business to such a company Reviewed on: 13th September 2019

Bad car insurance company

If could I would give them 0 starts I have arranged to do the cancellation over the phone with the customer service. Everything agreed they would take the money out from the direct debit account within 7 days from my partner account. which was really appreciated by me and my partner as we had a joint car insurance for that car. After 2 weeks I received an increase of £25 on my cancellation fee plus the amount owed After talking to then on the phone still wanted me to pay the increase. GREEDY and conning company never use them again I would not recommend to anyone regardless of what the situation Find a new quote get another insurance company to provide you cover Reviewed on: 12th July 2023

I explained to RAC that I was struggling with the cost of living and thinking about cancelling my membership. The customer service team were so helpful by offering to help spread my payments, adding deals to my package, and even giving me three months free. 10/10 Reviewed on: 1st June 2023

Appalling service watch for this con.

I made a mistake when applying for insurance. I entered the wrong date of an accident in that I dated the accident July 2020 when in actual fact the accident was September 2020. I also put that I was not at fault as it was a named driver who had the accident. Apparently as it was my policy I am at fault. The premium JUMPED by £358.64 to a total cost of £684.85. I cancelled the insurance. Went back onto an insurance comparison site with the now amended details and who should come up at a price of just under £400. Yes you,ve got it the RAC. So they wanted to charge over £200.00 for an error. I had also paid for my no claims to be protected. Reviewed on: 20th May 2023

Avoid the RAC Car Insurance

Truly awful to deal with and after we received our certificate we received a letter stating they would cancel our motor policy unless we paid extra administrative fees which they had added at a later stage. This company needs investigating by some sort of Insurance Authority. Avoid them at all costs. They are very difficult to contact once they get your money. Reviewed on: 13th May 2023

Terrible data management shocking systems to rip people off

If this company was based abroad, I would have thought this was a scan. They charged me £20 as they took the payment form card details from 12 months ago without checking with me the customer. RAC DO NOT DESERVE ANY STARS.

Incident in September 2022 and I’m STILL waiting for car to be repaired. Informed the earliest available appointment to sort car issues is 22 May!! This, despite car being assessed by garage in October…….. Charged £25 admin fee because I failed to tell them I’d taken early retirement! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!! Reviewed on: 10th May 2023
