Review of the Sainsburys Bank, Car insurance:

Tired stressed and confused

1
I chose Sainsbury's for my car insurance as it was the best option for my needs, but how I was so wrong. After someone drove into the back of my car I contacted them. The lady who drove into me asked that we went through insurance companies as she wouldn't be able to afford to replace bumpers on both cars. I phoned Sainsbury's to get the ball rolling and this has been a battle since day one. I was advised to take my car to a garage to get work assessed and did so straight away. 3 days later I was told that my car was a right off even though it was a cracked bumper, they told me I had to phone zenith to talk about next steps. Zenith then told me that it wasn't a right off and I had to send pictures of the damage to them, so I did. To be told another 5 days later it was a right off. They gave me the option of buying back the car, and because it has been in the family since new I decided that it would be the best option for me. I was then told by Sainsbury's that I needed to get another mot on the car and a engineers report to say it was fit for the road. Sainsbury's then paid me out, I had the work carried out on the car and got both MOT and engineers report which in total cost £450 including respray. As my insurance was just about to end I got an email from them the day before renewal saying I had to phone them to discuss my insurance. So I phoned again to be told that my car is regarded as a catagory s right off I can only get 3rd party insurance, I was not told before because if it had been brought up I would have gotten rid of the car. They then told me that they wouldn't insure me, which I wasn't to bothered about after been messed around with. Then after a frustrating call to be told that my no claims had been taken from me so trying to insure my car with other companies and they will only do 3rd party and it has doubled in price. I'm really not Happy. The lady who drove into me took responsibility for the accident, and I'm getting penalize for it. They said once the forms are filled in they will release my no claims but that can take up to 48 weeks. So now I'm stuck with a car that I can't insure because of the price. The crazy thing about it is if I hadn't contacted them I would have been driving with no insurance as they didn't inform me that I wasn't insured. I spent 5 and a half hours on hold on the first day trying to sort out what was happening with my car and some of the staff couldn't even find my policy. The amount of time I have spent phoning between Sainsbury's and zenith who is Sainsbury's underwriter is unbelievable, if you don't phone them nothing happens. I'm sorry Sainsbury's but I shop in your stores and I expect a standard but your car insurance solution is giving you a bad reputation. I would not recommend car insurance with you. What a load of rubbish

1
If I could put 0 stars I would. The level of incompetence from this company is beyond belief. Hours on hold, multiple emails sent to different addresses and still no response. I had an accident last August and still waiting on the verdict so I can sort out my future car insurance. I have even sent an email to the complaints address but I doubt they’ll do anything. Avoid this company an absolute pile of rubbish. Reviewed on: 4th July 2023

Charged for cancelled policy

1
As the cost of the car insurance had nearly doubled this year we rang Sainsburys bank to refuse renewal of the policy. We took out a policy with another company. A couple of days after the start of the policy we received a letter from Sainsburys thanking us for renewing with them. It turned out that they had charged over £400 to our credit card despite us cancelling. Although they have agreed to return the money we will have it on our credit card bill this month and it will only be refunded in the next months bill. Fortunately we can cover the bill but we are not impressed. Reviewed on: 11th May 2023

If you think about getting Sainsbury car insurance - think twice, or more times

1
I got a decent quote a year ago on line through a compare website, but trying to get a small change was quite impossible. Telephoning was forever and I gave up trying. I stuck with the insurance as it was until my renewal came up quite a bit more expensive, so I decided io cancel. The ONLY way to do it is to telephone them. There were a variety of numbers to try, and every one came up with the same nausious woman relating all the options and how sorry she was I was kept waiting. I spent three hours on the phone before finally getting a PERSON. Never again. Reviewed on: 27th March 2023

Awful customer service awful service

1
Customer service are rude and argue back giving me her feelings is not what a customer is paying for or needs to hear !!! Calling someone petty is down right out of order increase of insurance was a clear rip off when it’s lower through the comparison site with them !!! And then the cancellation fee another rip off and being told they are the cheapest for cancellation fee is a downright lie never ever will I recommend or have anything to do with Sainsbury car insurance again Reviewed on: 17th March 2023

Two lots of car insurance

Sainsburys should stick to groceries. Car related issues are not dealt with well at all!

1
i honestly do not know where to start. since the moment i reported the accident to the company, i have been distressed with the poor service i have received. miscommunication and omission of vital information. i am now over two weeks after the accident has occurred and my damaged car has still not been taken in for repair and i have not been given a replacement car as per the policy. everyone i have spoken to at the company have held their hands up telling me its not their problem and then i asked to speak to the manager and was passed over to a 'team leader' called Drew. he said he will call me back. that was two days ago. today i went to pick up the car and then informed it was a manual. i last drove one 20 years ago so for the sake of safety i have asked everyone i have spoken to over the duration of 17 days that i would require an automatic car. once i arrived to collect the car, they told me i have to pay extra per day for that - which will total an extra £200 on top of the £500 excess. No wonder Sainsburys Car Insurance was the cheapest - no experience or resources to deal with car accidents in a kind or timely fashion. i will be escalating this. Reviewed on: 16th March 2023
