Started well, then went down hill quickly

When I first joined Starling I was impressed enough to make them my main bank. However, over the year things got progressively worse. The app was frequently updated and either introduced bugs or made features worse. It appeared there was no testing or QA performed. Features often introduced with no thought for actual real life use. Their ethics also concern me. Unhappy with recieving feedback highlighting issues, they shut down their forum. In a bid to be "first" they released gambling block and made a media claim they were first, even though Monzo already had the feature. The technicality was all Starling customers had the feature, but Monzo was mid rollout. They failed to mention that Monzo's feature actually works and offers friction, whereas the Starling one is just a simple toggle in the app with no friction. They received feedback about this from a gambler on their forum, but just played it down with "our feature may not stop gambling, but we were first" I can't deal with a company with underhanded tactics and a superiority complex that refuse to accept that they haven't done things correctly. Saying that, I've not closed my account as it offers unlimited free ATM user abroad. I'll just transfer money to that account when I need to withdraw abroad Reviewed on: 10th November 2018

Excellent App for Banking

Excellent for withdrawl of foreign currency whilst abroad in Hong Kong in September. I love the real time updates and change to total balance that helps keep tabs of amount money left in the pot to avoid going overdrawn Reviewed on: 9th November 2018

Customer first

An outstanding experience - from opening the account, onboading, functionality, usability, CX, CS and design. My specific, personal user case testimonial - I spent three months abroad and loved not getting ripped off with over-inflated, money-making, unfair charges that you get from traditional high street bank. No compromise bank!

You guys saved me from my Danske account locking me out of my money when I was in Canada 2 weeks ago. I couldn't thank you guys enough for the no foreign transaction fee and the security controls of my starling card. Now I am completely converted to your bank and I hope that you continue to deliver the same top tier quality for years to come. Poor customer service

Relative to other fintechs - Starling is way behind its peers on customer service. Takes ages to get a response - and nobody else I know uses a starling account so you have no network effect making it easier to transfer money to friends for example. Reviewed on: 9th November 2018
