Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Fantastic Friendly Service

The staff I have spoken with are amazing. They are Non Judgmental, friendly, helpful and extremely supportive and understanding of my situation. I have been able to get a solution to my problems with the help of step change, I was initially so disappointed in myself that I had got into a situation which I felt there was no end to but after discussing the situation with step change staff I found that there was an answer, they have assisted me all through the process and I now feel so much better about things. Saved me!

I was getting further and further into debt and was maxed out on three credit cards. Until my health deteriorated and covid I was managing just. I lost one of my jobs during covid and due to ill health couldn't work full time. My mortgage was over half my salary, and I live alone. With council tax and heating I had nothing left. I was just paying the minimum payments then putting more stuff on credit cards. Step change helped me with a debt management plan, and though I still have little money for anything other than bare essentials, I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. Incredibly helpful, completely non-judgemental

The whole process was quick, easy and efficient. There was no judgement, just amazing help, support and advice. This has changed my life and that is not an exaggeration! I can sleep again

Step change really helped when I got into difficulty following various challenging times and the rise in cost of living. I had tried many ways to reduce my outgoings and help manage my payments but it seemed I was getting nowhere. As a last straw I got in touch with step change who were great. They gave me a way of managing my debt and pulled me from the water when I felt I was drowning. Although it is not the perfect solution, it is definitely a life line and a chance to stay afloat. What I liked most was being able to do everything online and never having to speak to anyone over the phone (something I really struggle with doing) I would recommend turning to step change if you are struggling and they will help to find you the best answer for your circumstances.
