I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Life saver

I wasn't sleeping, already suffering from depression my tablets had to be increased, my partner had got us into 30,000 of debt but just couldn't care less. At my wits end I tried several other debt management services but they all took a percentage, I was already in debt, I needed all the repayments to go towards paying it off. It was called CCCS then, I think I actually cried on the phone when we'd gone through the figures & they said they could help consolidate all the debts , stop the firms hassling me, take the burden off my shoulders. They continue to help me, quite a few years on but I've never felt pressured to pay back more than I can afford, their advice, now as Step Change, has been invaluable. After getting breast cancer I suddenly was unable to work. I had debts. I tried explaining to my creditors but it was very difficult. Then I came across these people who took control..
