Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Stepchange the beginning of getting back my life

When I contacted Stepchange I was in a downward spiral of debt with mounting interest and no where to turn. From the first conversation and setting up my plan and debts in one place I felt relief and could see monthly the progress I was making . Any contact from debtors was supported by Stepchange and the monthly payment made it manageable. I would recommend Stepchange to anyone serious about becoming debt free, best move I ever made. Large debts

Bailing out my son from his debts let my wife and I deep in debt ourselves and having to sell our house and downsize. StepChange helped me set up a manageable monthly repayment scheme. I have been able to amend my monthly payments as my circumstances have changed and am now just a year away from clearing what were substantial debts ..It's important that you understand how things work and that you keep in touch with StepChange. Step Change are brilliant

Quite simply I don't know what I would have done without Step Change. It took 4 years to pay off my debt but they made it so I could afford to do this and still live. Before contacting Step Change I wasn't sleeping at all and felt anxious all the time. It took me a while to pluck up courage to phone the helpline but once I did I felt almost instant relief. I was struggling with debt and the online tool and help I got was superb. My credit rating has dropped but mush less monthly outgoings and interets frozen so I can see an end to my debt. Any support Needed was fantastic, never hounded by the companies I owed to all dealt with via staep change. Reviewed on: 24th May 2025
