It was getting to the stage I was asking if my debt...

It was getting to the stage I was asking if my debt would be passed on in the event of my death. I was seriously thinking that this was my only way out (Suicide). The pressure was relentless with people chasing me… Then i discovered Stepchange and it changed my life. They were fantastic and put me on a plan that saved me from a terrible decision that would have affected everyone I knew. That was a few years ago now and I continue to make payments that reduces said debt and still allows me to sleep at night. I am forever in their debt and the guilt of getting in such a monetary position rests easier with me. Don’t know where I’d be without them, truly!

When I got introduced to step change, to be honest, I was drowning in debt. I had fled domestic violence but the bills had piled up whilst being financially controlled. After I left, I didn’t know where to even start or what to pay first with being a newly single mother. The sound of the letterbox moving started to panic me on the daily as I just didn’t know how to pay all these creditors the debts had racked up with for so long, with letters being sent to me constantly with bailiff notices, county court judgements, the lot, genuine fear would flush through me every single day. Step Change have taken this fear away almost completely, they assess the finances and let your creditors know how much you can realistically pay. I did this after an amazing breathing space period that they put in place over Christmas, which helped me so much mentally. I’ve almost paid back all of my debt already and as of November this year I’ll be completely debt free! Thank you so so much Step Change, you’ve given me and my boys our life back. I no longer panic over the sound of the letterbox. I no longer go days without food so my kids can eat instead. These guys helped change serious worries into a manageable situation. I wanted to pay my debts but couldn’t afford the interest on top of the monthly payment. Step Change has given me a plan that has given me longer to pay, stopped high interest accruing and an affordable payment amount each month. Reviewed on: 19th May 2026

You guys are a Star!

I was stressed out due to unmanageable debts and had no clue what to do. Heard about stepchange so registered and requested assistance. Whole process was very straigthforward and smooth and they dealt with all the lenders on my behalf. I couldn't have asked for more. I feel more comfortable and confident about my future.
