Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Admitting I had a problem was the hard part

When my bank put me in touch with StepChange, I was terrified of both admitting that I had a problem and having to ask for help. I needn't have worried because everyone was kind and understanding. I haven't looked back since that day. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

Step Change saved me!

As I've said before, you stopped me from hitting rock bottom. Step Change saved me from certain bankruptcy and I'm now slowly getting back on my feet. I can budget for the taxman's share, as well as everyone else. Without this help, I would be in dire straits. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

We wasn’t in a very good position with our finances...

We wasn’t in a very good position with our finances when my husband had to finish work on ill health. We didn’t know what to do, we got in touch with our creditors but because we hadn’t got behind with our payments they weren’t very helpful. We phoned stepchange and from that day we felt that a weight had been lifted. They contacted all our creditors and arranged a token payment. Stepchange is a life changer.

Stepchange is a life changer. It brings things down to earth and gives you the confidence to cope. The lovely people on the end of the phone are non judgmental and very supportive. No matter who or what , from time to time we all need some sort of help. I have recommended Stepchange to a number of people who were financially struggling. I felt desperate after my husband passed away, my income went from great, to my pension. I had some insurance but once that was depleted i had mortgage payments. Credit card bills. I heard about step change, I called asking for help. They are not in any way judgemental, very understanding of my situation. I can not thank the staff enough for all the advice and recomendations given. This was 6 years ago. Made my life worth living as did not know where to turn. Thank you Step change highly recommend. Life saving debt management charity

This charity absolutely saved my life after I found myself in unmanageable debt. They took all the details of my incoming and outgoings and amount of debt and suggested the solution of a debt management plan. They dealt directly with my creditors for me so I didn't have to do a thing and I'll be debt free next year! Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025
