Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Five years on

I was first put in touch with stepchange in August 2020 holding 78000.00 of debt on credit cards. The interest on 18 cards had surpassed my income for many months and my life was not a life at all . Once stepchange were involved I really did get a life back once the letters and calls stopped and I was able to keep in touch with stepchange on a regular basis . I still have a way to go but with stepchange help I have no worries or sleepless nights any more . Couldn’t possibly thank them enough , I’ll be forever grateful, thank you . When i was at a point of despair step change took controle and gave me my hope back , they help put me on a managable plan in a friendly non jugemental way , i am happy we have access to stepchange . Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

My lifeline

I contacted them in 2007 with a debt of £143k,I was panic stricken. The calmed me down assured me it could be sorted and gave me the confidence to do it. My debt is now £10k. It as a relief to get my creditors off my back with no more interest added on, or the bailiffs calling round. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

StepChange helped me pay off nearly £20,000.

StepChange helped me pay off nearly £20,000 in credit card debts in a little just over 5 years. If I had any problems, I could use their tools on their website to help me budget, and when my finances changed, I phoned them and let them know so that my payments could be adjusted accordingly. It has been a huge weight lifted off my shoulders that I am now debt free, and I couldn't recommend using them highly enough. It 'can' be done. You 'can' be debt free.
