Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

There is no shame in seeking a debt management plan

Stepchange helped us to acknowledge our debts without judgement and was instrumental in setting up a payment plan. They have helped and advised us on annual payment plans and contacted accounts on our behalf. They have been invaluable. Accessing account on line is easy, but they are only a phone call if needed. We are coming to the end of our plan and can finally look forward to peace of mind. There is no shame in admitting and accepting debt help, it can happen to anyone. It is certainly difficult at start as bank accounts had to change and no credit available for anything like phones, washing machines etc ; every penny is accounted for. But we persevered and educated ourselves with money along the way. Cannot recommend then highly enough. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

Non judgemental and solution focused

Polite, engaging, compassionate and empathetic staff. Sympathetic to people’s circumstances and very professional. I no longer feel like I’m drowning and can swim again. It all felt too much - the service is invaluable in this cost of living crisis! Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025
