Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

I was overwhelmed by debt

I contacted StepChange when my debts became unmanageable. They explained my options clearly and helped me set up a debt management plan that matched what I could afford. There was no judgement, just practical advice and support. The process was simple, and they kept in touch in case anything changed. Thanks to them, I’m now making progress and no longer feel stuck. Stepchange literally saved my life.

Stepchange literally saved my life. I was depressed, anxious and in the depths of despair when I could not pay my credit cards, a debt ran up due to my divorce. But I contacted Stepchange and the staff were so empathetic. kind and knowledgeable . It has been sometimes been a struggle keeping up the level of payments as agreed, but I was determined to do so. I could have paid less as prices soared for utilities and food over the years. Stepchange would have re-negotiated my arrangement. However I did not want to lower the level of payments and now in 2025 I only have one more year until I am debt free. It makes me feel that all my birthdays and anniversaries are coming at once!! Thank goodness for step change!
