Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Being in debt was making me ill both physically and mentally until I was directed to Step Change . I cannot thank them enough for sorting out all of my finances and taking away all of the pressure I was under with one monthly payment . Lifesavers

I was struggling with huge debts and owed far more in monthly payments than my wages covered. I was considering bankruptcy after ignoring the issue for a long time. I was guided to contact Stepchange and this was the first time I had hope that my nightmare was over. It felt like a good friend helping me battle the debt collectors and giving me the breathing space I desperately needed. One simple (and more importantly realistic and affordable) payment each month and the rest is all done for you. A yearly appraisal of my budget and if necessary occasional holiday payment pauses. I could finally sleep at night and have the money to pay my bills and still enjoy life. It took me 9 years to clear nearly £20k of debt, but I am now free from it all. I have a really healthy credit score, but more importantly I now manage my debts much more responsibly. I cannot thank this charity enough for saving me from the worst days of my life.
