Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Without step change intervention as I was on the verge of taking my own life. Their help in sorting out the situation I put myself in is life changing for me personally as without them reaching out a deal with my creditors I would not have managed. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

I am never judged - just helped.

I am never judged - just helped. Even when I use unkind words about myself/the situation the staff never enable it either directly or indirectly. They explain things in a non jargon way and using extensive expertise and empathy, help guide you to not only the best decision that works for you (sharing with you all your possible options) but also sustaining progress across time in a consistent yet not overbearing way. I am not penalised for errors or difficult moments, and I can navigate being debt free with ease and clarity. They also advocate well when I receive unwarranted letters for an issue that is already being handled, and their online system makes it easy to keep control, update or edit to reflect your current circumstances or any changes. I had debts of over £12,000.

I had debts of over £12,000.I couldn't sleep at night ,felt low I was worrying I made myself ill.The hardest thing to do to get help is to pick up the phone. Step change were recommended by a friend, such an easy process, and the staff are excellent everything is explained.Once everything is sorted you can breathe a lot better. 10 out of 10 step change and for the customer service.
