Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Hardship into Communal Support

I owe so much to the people who stood by me during my darkest days. Between my son’s autism and epilepsy, I reached a breaking point where my debts became overwhelming. The hardest part wasn't just the money—it was the guilt of feeling like I had betrayed the people who loaned me funds. Under any other circumstances, I would have never been in this position. StepChange didn't just give me a plan; they gave me empathy when I needed it most. My goal now is to use this journey to become a beacon of support for other autistic individuals and their families. Good helpful service
