Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

I was struggling so much.

I was struggling so much. I was in £7000 if debt. Next year I will be debt free and its all down to the help of stepchange, organising my debts into one payment. Liaising with the debtors. Found a way forward after many years of anxiety

I got into a lot of debt looking after a sick family member, StepChange helped me restructure the debt and keep my creditors at bay! Due to having Bi-Polar i was constantly in debt because in manic episodes i uad no control ovrr my behaviour which centred around purchasing evrything and anything and debts mounted. I declared bankruptcy in my late 20's as i was under the care of an NHS psychiatric team and put on medication. I felt it was a new start. Reviewed on: 6th May 2026
