Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Step change are heroes

Was in a bad place financially was never able to get on top of my debt just bill after bill. A family member told me about stepchange so I contacted them and within a few days had a plan set up and never looked back. After 18 months I am now debt free and thanks to stepchange that was made possible. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

I was broke.

I was broke. Left without a way of earning money or paying any bill when Covid and bereavement hit. They listened to me cry. Reassured me and helped me. No signposting as such just good quality human interaction where we identified a plan. 5 years later they’ve supported me occasionally when creditors haven’t played ball. Debt spiraling and too proud to ask for help.

I was overwhelmed with my debts and had no where to go. I had kept secret the size of the problem from all around me including my wife. StepChange helped me to get back on track with managing my debts as well as providing some real cost effective ways of cutting back so that I can focus all my money in the right places to pay off my debt.
