I turned to step change in 2020 my marriage had bro...

I turned to step change in 2020 my marriage had broken down , and I was left with a lot of debts so I owed about 16000, at the time, iv been able to put all my debts as one payment, so far iv payed just over 6,000 pounds in the last 5 years I'm glad I did turn to step change, they have helped me sort out my debts and now iv been able to sleep at night Reviewed on: 24th May 2025

Using StepChange has been honestly life changing for me

The help I received from StepChange has been honestly life changing. I was in real difficulty with my finances, the situation was getting worse and it was causing me a lot of stress and anxiety. But contacting StepChange helped me get things under control and eased my worries straight away. They are kind, knowledgeable, professional and totally non judgmental. I contacted stepchange when I was struggling to pay...

I contacted stepchange when I was struggling to pay debts due to rising costs of today. The online forms were very straightforward and easy enough to complete, it was nice to know someone was there to help if needed with the forms. Once I completed everything asked, I just had to wait. It was around 10 days that I was contacted to say all was set up and when my first payment would be taken. In those 10 days stepchange emailed me and kept me up to date on what they had sent to my creditors. It was so easy from start to having my DMP set up, will definitely recommend to anyone struggling, wish I'd found out about it sooner as I wouldn't have had to struggle for so long. StepChange’s DMP has helped me!

I had joined StepChange on a DMP after experiencing financial hardship a couple of years ago. I was really worried about my finances and through their support I am 9 months off being completely debt free. They are supportive and great communicators and I pay a manageable amount per month that contributes directly to the debts I had. I was really struggling with my finances, which meant It was having a real bad effect on my health, out of desperation I contacted Step Change, who helped me to set up a debt management plan, which has made an enormous difference to my health, they really are my life saver. Pride doesn't get you out of the rut, Step Change do!

During a period of time where debts had mounted, interest shot up, cost of living crisis, then losing my job, I had to shove pride to the side and ask for help. Step Change were a God send! So much information which was in lehmans terms, so much help and support online with excellent tools. When speaking with several people over the phone, each person was so nice, empathetic and didn't make me feel what I anticipated... like a school headteacher telling you what you should have done. Step Change listened and looked at all the ways they could support, with clear expectations on what would happen. The sprocess has been seemless and updating the details afterwards is so simple. Despite the initial barrage and still constant letters from companies, Step Change is like your force field who sort all the long worded legal stuff out so I don't have to. It's meant a lot of stress being lifted, I have found new work and feel so much better in myself, as has been observed by friends and family. After years of burying my head and letting pride take control, I now have the control back, which I would never have done without Step Change. There is still a long road to go, and there is still the debt to pay back, however, we can now make it month to month on our new budget, without having to add more debt. Reviewed on: 28th May 2024
