Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Easy to speak to and non judgemental

The advisors are easy to speak to and explain all of your options so that you understand. They are not judgemental at all. When I decided which option I thought may be best they explained how and why this may not be the best option in my circumstances and recommended a different one which turned out to be much better. Step change helped me to get out of years of debt.

Step change helped me to get out of years of debt. Helping me to balance paying off my debt and still being able to pay my rent and bills. Step change helped me to assess my monthly budget to create what was realistic for me to pay off my debts each month. After 5 years I am debt free after owing over 20,000 pounds. Stepchange - an amazing company!

In 2017, someone got access to my bank account. Back then, security wasn't quite as good as it is now, and I had no idea what had happened until the next day. As well as taking all the money, they also arranged an instant loan, and took that toot. The money was transferred to an offshore account, and that was the end of it, leaving me with no money, and no way of repaying my bills, and the loan repayments. When I spoke to my bank, they suggested I contact Stepchange, and they were brilliant. They contacted all the people I couldn't pay, and sorted an affordable monthly payment, so I didn't have to keep worrying about being in debt, which I had never been in before. 9 years on, I'm still paying it off, but at least I can get on with my life, and not gave to worry about people knocking on my door for money. Stepchange have been amazing, if you have money problems, they're non judgmental, and they will help you. Best thing I ever did! Reviewed on: 28th May 2026

If you are struggling with debt speak to StepChange - I did, and I have found them to be incredibly helpful, supportive and provided me various options to support me clearing my debt, they liaised with my creditors directly so I had that pressure lifted from me and negotiated an affordable repayment plan with them on my behalf.
