Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

They’re a Really Relaxed & Helpful Bunch!

Obviously, going to them, is not your ’finest hour’ and having poor financial planning can really affect your wellbeing. I feel there’s been more pressure over the past say 15 years to reverse the idea of living within your means’ and I feel it can be a real strain, that’s a general broader point. My situation was more of reaching a crossroads and having to take an option that I feel WILL eventually be worthwhile, but the ‘bridge’ to that point is quite a long one. Anyway everyone has their stories. Whatever it is, these guys are super chill, super helpful and they have instilled some behaviours in me that, have assisted me to manage my ongoing affairs. They will get you to do a budget, which may feel a bit daunting, but there’s nothing to worry about, and actually going through the process gives you (or did give you) a number that you can use with some of your other bills. I do recommend them at the slightest hint of a ‘problem with finances’ situation. Reviewed on: 9th June 2025

I’m so grateful for the help and support of Stepchange

Stepchange helped me when I was so worried about the first time in my life the debt I found myself in.. They went though everything with me in a clear and simple manner. It was like a weight had been lifted off me and I could move forward knowing my debt was under control and I was paying back what I could afford . I spent every night for months trying to make everything work money wise for my situation but it never would, I was crying every night and buying for food and fuel on credit cards. These people where my last resort, that was my downfall. They should have been the first place I went to! If I had I would be in less debt but trying to admit you can't do it anymore is the hardest part. Without these people my family would be homeless and I don't know where we would be. It took two months to sort my account out and get up and running and the hardest part for me was phoning up and talking to a different person each time but otherwise it was all positive. Kind, calm, non-judgemental and knowledgeable.

The staff are fantastic - I was very weepy and anxious when I finally got in touch with them, and they were so kind, non-judgemental, helpful and calm. They have made the process of sorting out my debt really simple. They explain everything, and are supremely patient. I recommended them to a friend years ago, and they were great then too.
