Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

I was in a lot of financial trouble in 2016 owing over 40k.i was having sleepless nights and didn't what to do. Stepchange was recommended by a friend. Overall, my experience with Step change has been very positive and I would have no hesitation in recommending the service to other persons who need assistance with debt management. Aside from being a free service, I value the flexibility provided by StepChange which has enabled me to cope with challenging circumstances on several occasions. Amazing!

Everyone I have spoken to from the beginning have been amazing. I've never ended a call with an unresolved problem and the help I've received is great. I've never felt rushed to end a call and everyone has been really understanding and patient when I've has a meltdown. Reviewed on: 27th May 2026
