High APR but great customer service

4
I can't fault the customer service I received when taking out the card. Friendly and helpful, prompt to call back when requested and good advice on setting up and managing my account online. The APR is high, but this is because they consider customers with a poor credit rating, and provided you pay back within the interest free period it shouldn't be an issue. A good product but shoddy customer service

The product itself is not bad. The APR is quite high but I knew this getting into the agreement. However when I got into some financial difficulty, I had to play the most ridiculous game of cat and mouse trying to get hold of someone, only for them to never return my calls, or call back with no prior knowledge of what our discussion had entailed. Complaints are VERY slowly resolved although gestures of goodwill are often given to make up for the wait. Reviewed on: 28th March 2016

Low credit limit but overall great

My credit rating is poor so granted they started with a low credit limit and havent increased it within 12 months but all those green ticks can only help Reviewed on: 28th March 2016

Confusing website and regular sales calls

2
I found it really difficult to get the basic information from the website - how much I need to pay, by what date, and what the interest would be if I didn't. I've had to set up a direct debit to automate the payment as a couple of times I've paid off the balance when I received a statement, then used the card again a couple of weeks later thinking it'd appear on the next month's statement, but incurred interest. I don't know what the sales calls are about as I never pick up, but from other's online experience I know they're regular enough to be annoying. Reviewed on: 10th August 2015

A fabulous chance to rebuild your credit if you know what you're signing up for.

4
Vanquis may have extortionate interest rates and low credit limits but if you've struggled with credit in the past, it's a great opportunity to try borrowing again. The lower credit limit is manageable, the repayments fair (and standard for a credit card), and the interest rate is reasonable for the added risk. I'm glad Vanquis gave me a chance when no one else would touch me and now I am back on track to improving my credit rating. If you really want someone to give you a second chance, then the high interest rates are to be expected. But manage your account well and you may be able to sign up for lower rates elsewhere. So far, I can't find fault with Vanquis. And their online account servicing is a bonus too! Reviewed on: 9th April 2015

Good starting card

4
Took out a Vanquis card as I had no previous credit history and no other companies would accept. Application process - Accepted within a week via phone call, notified immediately of credit limit and when to expect card and paperwork etc... Using the card - Very easy online account management, easy to navigate through each different section online, can view your current purchases (usually 1-2 days to update) and previous statements. Excellent if you want to go paperless. Customer Service - Have had to call Vanquis a few times for various reasons, each time the queues are relatively short, waited no longer than 10 minutes on hold, the staff are friendly and helpful. Other - This is a good starter card, however as it is a credit building card for those with no or poor credit the APR can be high. Promotions - You may receive sales calls if you do not opt out, however they can be beneficial services so I would recommend only opting out of 3rd party ones and not ones direct through Vanquis. They offer payment protection plans and savings clubs etc... Overall - Good starting card and good for emergencies Reviewed on: 7th October 2014
