Review of the Vitality, Health insurance:

A Vitality policy means will always pay in the end

1
My insurance started in 2017 with a premium of just over £315 per month for my husband and I. Our renewal quote for 2023/24 is £724 per month (from £515 for the past year). Our premium has gone up without fail every year by around 25%; this year, it is an increase of just under 41%. Our crime? Me getting and then surviving breast cancer and then in 2022 having a minor obstetric procedure. My cancer, thanks only to the NHS, was caught very early so I have only had to have a yearly scan and check-up by my Oncologist since a 2017 lumpectomy and radiation treatment. This was followed by 5 years of cancer-free scans. By the way, I'm 58, 5'7, weighing 61kg, a surfer, kiteboarder, and wing foiler. I am incredibly fit and healthy and I wear a fitness tracker; I'm absolutely Vitality's target client, yet they've been ruthless. Even given my level of activity, I've only managed to get to Bronze status so looking at my activity level, I must assume that you have to be an olympic athlete to get higher points. When I had my initial cancer diagnosis, Vitality spent time trying to prove that I knew about it before taking out the policy. My diagnosis was on March 7th 2018 and I took the policy out in Sept 2017. I didn't know and my GP confirmed it, but not before Vitality caused me a huge amount of extra unnecessary stress on top of a devastating cancer diagnosis making me go to the GP to request documents to prove I wasn't lying. They later apologised and sent me flowers. If you do need a check-up for anything, Vitality is set up to make it difficult/time consuming to achieve 'approval' (I'm sure you will be familiar with the waiting message 'we are receiving a very high volume of calls at the moment, blah blah blah'). The last time I wrote a bad review on Vitality, they spent months trying to have it removed, reporting that I had made a mistake in posting to the 'wrong' company. If you are reading this it's because you are looking for Vitality customer's opinions. Here's my advice, don't buy a Vitality policy; it's better to put those ever-increasing premiums in a savings account of your own in case you need future treatment or find a less ruthless insurance provider who understands risk. Vitality will punish you and claw back any costs they incur in your premiums. No-one in their right mind would think that 25% year on year increases followed by a 41% increase is reasonable. Even Usay Compare who have handled my policy are aghast at the level of my premium increases. It's clearly a company strategy to do this as when I asked for the minor procedure permission, they had to warn me in a carefully worded policy script that any treatment I had 'would effect my premium'. So please bear in mind the following: insurance should always present a 'risk' for the company providing it. Some people don't claim at all. For example, my husband has not claimed a single £'s worth of treatment since we took out the policy ; hasn't even seen a doctor. Vitality don't offer him a discount for not making a claim, but they have penalised me excessively. My premiums have now totalled almost as much as any treatment received. That seems to be the aim/policy of Vitality. They don't take a risk with their customers, they simply claim back the cost of having you as a client by increasing your premiums. I'm in the process of renewing now with Bupa and I'm told my premium will be under £300 per month with continued cancer cover, just in case. I'm not remotely interested in hearing 'from the team' as Vitality have written below. Previous complaints over the years have all fallen on deaf ears; the level of premium increases have never relented but this year's increase will finally drive me away as a customer: I think that's what they've wanted all along but as a cancer survivor moving insurance is very tricky until you are at least 5 years cancer free. Unethical, Uncaring and Uncoordinated Staff and Systems

1
Put my payments for reimbursement on hold as they are stupid, different computer systems and teams do not communicate. You have to call the same number and can pushed across three teams of half wits, each of whom are rude and obtuse - seeking to make you ‘not bother’ so they can keep the money and pay out. The most unethical and manipulative pack of chumps you could imagine. Their App is ‘atrocious’ and their teams feckless, unhelpful and incapable. Avoid this shower of shite! Legal way to scam you when you are most vulnerable

1
I had this insurance for 2 years and it was completely useless. evetime they either rejected the claim or made so much hassle for me to submit it that it was impossible to do. It has cost me more money just to make the claims that were later rejected than what they ever paid for anything. And it has cost me 10x over what I would have paid If I just went to private practice and payed from pocket. It is just a bunch of idiots calling each other and pretending that they are providing a service. Complete scam, stay away, do not get swayed by their marketing sales reps, they are completely miss representing the claim process and make it look like you can actually get something out of this. Do not take out life insurance with this company

1
Vitality_UK your handling of claims and medical knowledge of your assessing team is completly imcompetent - My advice to others - DO NOT TAKE OUT LIFE INSURANCE WITH THIS COMPANY - My dad passed away and this company are doing everything possible to avoid paying a relatively straight forward claim. I now have to get solicitors and the financial ombudsman involved. They are great and helpful when getting you signed up but this is exactly the opposite when you need to make a claim. My dad trusted this company and they have let him down - if you want to protect your family by taking out life insurance then do not get involved with this company - your family deserve better than the complete incompetency of this company. Awful company

1
Do not go with Vitality. They do not cover anything. They do not respond if you call or if you email. I’m awaiting calls from weeks ago. The app doesn’t work properly so you will have to be on the phone to tech people. Save yourself the time of cancelling in a few months time because if you ever need to make a claim, you will end up cancelling immediately. Reviewed on: 8th November 2021

Extremely poor customer service rendering health care inaccessible

1
Their customer service is awful with ridiculous wait times that prevent you accessing care. No option to ask for a callback which would at least save you having to sit and listen to the same loop of muzak until it breaks your will and you give up. Any company that actually gave two hoots about their customers beyond gobbling their money would employ enough staff to provide a service. Reviewed on: 5th November 2021

Do not use Vitality

1
Vitality wont cover you for practically anything. if you have ever had a symptom before the plan they wont cover, even if its not related. They have tried to say something is related even though it is totally different. They said they would make a decision in 3 days... 8 weeks later and still waiting. I have called 4 times in the last 2 weeks and i'm told somebody will ring back by 6.30 but they never get back to me. AVOID THIS COMPANY! Reviewed on: 3rd November 2021

Crooks

1
Crooks Crooks. They are there not to pay anything other than the salaries of the employees, their CEO and advertisers. Beyond the fact that they will never pay for any claim you need to wait for 2 hours to talk to them after waiting 1 hour for someone to pass you to someone else and then wait for 1 hour more They hope you will give up. They should be audited immediately by the regulator, they are providing no service for the money they receive. I can start an insurance company my self like that. They are nothing, just crooks. More (empty) promises from Vitality

1
More (empty) promises from Vitality Again for the third day, promises (from Laura Smith, Abby, Namrata, Kalpana, Shreyasi, Kajal among others!) for a call back that never comes (admittedly they didn't say which year it would be) I've tried WhatsApp, email, Face Book - lots of promises - but nothing else. I would strongly advise against taking health insurance with them. Reviewed on: 25th October 2021

Avoid

1
This company is a scam. They do not cover you for 95% of what goes on. I tried for 7 days to get through to customer service for an appointment. I had to go through 3 different numbers, a web chat and email. Calls requested were not returned and nobody seems to want to help or know anything about what you query. I was cut off after 15 minutes on multiple calls. Told that they don’t cover you in most cases, not just preexisting comditions. If you have ever experienced a symptom, you won’t be covered. Trouble is, if you have ever had a stomach pain or headache for whatever reason, you’re not covered because it was before your plan. The app for rewards doesn’t work and you have to continually ask for them to manually upload steps you do. Do not go with this company. Reviewed on: 20th October 2021
