I had a deeply disappointing and frustrating experience with Barclays Bank that has left me without access to my money and savings. Without any prior notification, Barclays abruptly closed my bank account, freezing all my funds. This was shocking and alarming, as it left me unable to access my money, which includes both my daily funds and significant savings. The lack of communication from Barclays throughout this ordeal has been appalling. I was not informed in advance of the account closure, and the customer service has been unhelpful and evasive. I made numerous calls to their customer service, only to be met with vague responses and a lack of clarity about the status of my funds. They instructed me to send a letter to their headquarters, which I promptly did, but I received no response. This bureaucratic runaround has been incredibly stressful, and it seems like they are making it as difficult as possible for me to get my money back. It feels like Barclays has effectively stolen my money, as they have not provided any legitimate reason for holding my funds, nor have they offered any solutions or timelines for resolution. The bank's failure to communicate, lack of transparency, and poor customer service are utterly unacceptable. I would strongly caution anyone against banking with Barclays, as my experience has shown that they cannot be trusted to handle your money responsibly or provide adequate customer support. I was having problems with an ex's debts and needed to shut down my old bank account and transfer everything to Barclays. They took me on even though they knew i was in debt and did everything for me. I was never made to feel awkward or embarrassed. Reviewed on: 2nd April 2025

Outdated and ineffective

It took 15 months of forms, calls, branch visits and finally legal intervention to retreive funds which Barclays had held on to after coding a "dormant" account. My family and I were thwarted at every turn by poor communication, ill trained staff, teams buried within the bowels of the bank's centralised structure and just plain apathy or hostility from frontine staff at branches.
