By Miles charge a fixed cost that covers a car while it’s parked. The rest is based on the actual miles driven. Customers can either plug in the matchbox-sized Miles Tracker, or for newer cars, you can connect By Miles directly with your car’s mileometer.

I was dubious at first, as I'd not heard of the company and is obviously a different way of calculating insurance. But I'm so pleased I went with By Miles. It is so quick and easy to set up, I've saved A LOT of money on my insurance and I love the app!! It is so easy to use, holds a lot of information, keeps everything in one place including my breakdown cover and love the added extras in "My Glove". Would absolutely recommend to anyone who doesn't do a very high mileage. Reviewed on: 9th September 2020

Fantastic no nonsense car insurance!company!

By Miles is a fantastic no nonsense insurance company. The policy is clear, it was easy to get going and I get great value from my insurance company by paying for my miles I use. I believe not all drivers are the same and it’s great to know that the policy caters for the mileage that I do and basis payment on that offering great flexibility to make savings the months I don’t have much car use. Fantastic value for money, a great App, and some hidden surprises!

For someone who does relatively low mileage throughout the year but a few long trips (e.g. to Italy Skiing and visiting family in Ireland) this is a superb product for me (given the daily mileage caps). What's more, the ability to track your car from the App could also help in the event that car is stolen. Lastly, I recently had an engine warning light come on in may car - the App diagnosed the fault accurately and saved me the £85 + VAT that Mercedes charges its customers to hook your car up to their fault diagnostic tool!
