Brilliant and efficient bank

My husband and I have been with First Direct for around 20 years. They have never let us down or messed anything up. They have been quietly efficient. Always great and friendly customer service, on hand 24/7; even for non-banking enquiries, like when my car broke down (I have breakdown cover included on my account), got through within seconds and they couldn't have been more helpful. Great customer service, poor reward.

I feel disappointed that after 20 years of banking with First Direct, and enjoying their first class customer service, I have to shop around to find a current account that gives me benefits. I think their on line experience is very good - they were the first and they do it really well, but looking at other interfaces coming into the market, they'll need to find a new differentiator. The interest rates on my current account is 0 so I'll be taking my cash elsewhere. Reviewed on: 27th December 2016

World class banking

I moved to First Direct nearly 30 years ago after being ripped off first by Barclays as a student, then Lloyds after pulling in my first proper wage. Both of these high street dinosaurs pulled me under each month by adding overdraft fees that increased a debt that couldn't be reduced, even though they were well aware of my fixed income. First Direct have always helped me when I've been at my lowest, so I continue with them now my finances are more stable. The products are good, although I hardly need the free overdraft facility, the internet banking is intuitive, easy and secure, assistance when required on the phone is in a language understood in England, but most of all everyone I've ever dealt with in the company is a perfect ambassador for how someone I trust with my money should be.
