If you’re eligible, you can get an interest free overdraft of £250. You won’t be charged debit card fees when spending abroad. If approved for an account, you’ll get a virtual card you can use straight away.

Simple but effective

Although they lack high street locations they have the best customer service available and you can use the post office to pay in cheques etc Reviewed on: 22nd November 2019

Easy switch

Was very easy to switch from my old current account. I received £175 to switch. Was able to open a 7% regular saver account and a gold credit card with 17 months 0%. Reviewed on: 7th April 2023

Great online banking experience

Very easy to use

First direct is a true online and phone bank, something which makes banking with them so easy. I could even pay a very large amount into another account over the phone! Debit card security has also impressed me: I've been using first direct for more than 10 years and it never got hacked whereas my card with another bank, which I rarely use, has been hacked twice.
