Top bank with top customer service

First Direct are what a bank should be. I have been with them since shortly after they began as a telephone-only bank. Only once in all that time have I had to hold on (I think it was about 45 seconds) before speaking to a human; every other time one gets straight through. There are no ghastly computer questions to wade through first. The accounts are well thought out and operate smoothly online; there are none of the computer disasters you hear of from other banks. And until recently the Regular Saver paid a really excellent rate of interest. Reviewed on: 20th November 2019

Keeping the humanity in personal banking

First Direct have impeccable customer service. Always being able to speak to a (well-trained) person makes all the difference in frustration and difficult situations that can arise in personal banking. It is the only bank I’ve ever dealt with where the service is consistently brilliant, the staff remember they are dealing with (sometimes very vulnerable) people and not just money depositors, and you never have to repeatedly explain your issue or instructions anytime you are transferred between agents or departments because the team communicates exceptionally well and leave thorough and appropriate notes on your account. The banking app could do with a few more features to rival their app-only competitors but those are minor preferences in comparison to the overall banking experience. Longest wait for an agent around 1 minute, normally an instant connection. Easy to use online for secure payments. Great service over many years. Reviewed on: 7th November 2019

Disappointing customer service

For all it's great ratings, this had been disappointing. The app didn't properly register me, and required long phonecalls to customer service. This happened again when my phone OS updated again. Reviewed on: 5th November 2019

Premier banking without the fee

Have been with First Direct for more years than I can remember and never had a problem, it's always been like having premier banking but without the fees, first class service from all the operators I have spoken to and so good to speak to a call center in the UK. Reviewed on: 5th November 2019
