Review of the first direct, Regular Saver Account:

Excellent way to save to make your dreams a reality.

Excellent way to save to make your dreams a reality. Only wish you were able to save more per month Reviewed on: 12th April 2024

Excellent regular saver

First Direct offer one of the best regular savers on the market - it allows you to pay in up to £300 per month and earn 6% interest. It's easy to open and operate online, and payment in is by standing order which makes it easy to change the monthly payment amount if you want to. I've held these accounts for the last three years, and as long as they're still offering such a great rate I'll open a new one as soon as my current one matures. Reviewed on: 5th September 2016

Great rate and straightforward savings product

The First Direct Regular Saver offers a market leading 6% on savings up to £300 per month, and matures after a year. You must add at least £25 per month to your regular saver, but you can make up any shortfall (up to the £300 per month maximum) in subsequent months. The account can be opened online, and once you've created a standing order to credit your monthly savings to the account, you can essentially forget about it until it matures. Definitely worth getting in today's low interest rate environment! Reviewed on: 5th September 2016

Regular Saver Review

The interest rate is very high. If I want to change the amount, they always answer the phone within 60 seconds and you don't have any stupid menu options to go through first. They are always quick and helpful. The staff always sound like they care and are interested and the rate of interest is brilliant Reviewed on: 5th September 2016

Refreshing customer service

I have always received good service from First Direct since transferring to them 9 years ago. Helpful and always available and good savings products offered Reviewed on: 1st September 2016

Whichever way foes it!

I have been a customer of First Direct since they were the first telephone bank to operate 24 hours a day, way before the internet. It was easy to contact them and it hasn't changed over the years. I have a couple of savings accounts, and an ISA with them. My regular savings account is a special for current account customers and pays a good rate of interest. I've never considered moving - why would I when i can do my day to day business on-line and quickly speak to a friendly human, as and when. Oh, and I don't need to remember my security questions now, as they have 'voice recognition'. Reviewed on: 1st September 2016

The perfect bank

My mortgage came to the end of it's contract so I got in touch with First Direct to see what needed to be done and if any changes needed to be made. My details were quickly taken and found so they could confirm everything which quickly led to me being told that by changing my mortgage to a different type and I would be on a much better package which was both saving me money on each monthly payment but allowing me to finish paying the mortgage at the same time! No idea how it works but I was delighted to be told it! Since then it has made a lovely difference to our monthly finances by having an extra £200 a month available to spend how we want. Could they be any better? I don't think so. Reviewed on: 1st September 2016

Great Interest Rates

Since opening my First Direct current account, I have also taken advantage of their regular saver account. This is really easy to set up and can all be done online when signed in for online banking. You then set up a standing order from your current account for between £25 and £300 to be transferred into the regular saver on a date of your choosing. This is great, as you can set up for the money to be transferred on payday, making it really easy to save. The best part of the account is the interest rate, which is 6% for the regular saver. This is one of the best in the market. It is paid at the end of 12 months of saving. The only draw back of the account is that you must commit for 12 months of saving, and if you access your money before that you don't get paid the interest. If you are saving some something specific long term, or just want to make sure you have a savings pot, I would highly recommend this account, as you'd be hard pushed to find a better interest rate at the moment. Good regular saver at current rates

As well as a First Direct bank account I also set up a first direct regular saver. The interest rate for the product was 6% which is market leading at current rates, and you can save up to £300 per month (which I did). So across the year you get around 3% interest in £3600. I had absolutely no problems with the account. It was easy to set up online and I set up a standing order to pay in every month. It is worth bearing in mind that the day that your account is set up needs to be the day that your direct debit goes iut each month. A customer service representative mentioned this on the phone to me before I set it up and I was glad she did! Reviewed on: 1st September 2016

Very Happy

I've been with First Direct since last April and used their switching service to move my current account to them. I decided to move because they offered a generous joining bonus and had a reputation for excellent customer service. The switch went through quickly and painlessly and the joining bonus was promptly paid. I also then opened a regular saver account with an attractive interest rate which was completed quickly and without any issues. In my time as a customer, I have conducted the majority of my business online and everything has been very satisfactory. So much so in fact that I have not had reason to test quality of the much vaunted customer service levels for myself. Long may that continue. The only small drawback I would mention (there must be something) is the app used to access the online account is a bit clunky but only due to the security checks involved but I would say it could do with review to make it a little more user friendly. That said, is a relatively small point and does not take away form my overall experience which so far has been excellent. Highly recommended. Reviewed on: 31st August 2016
