Had a spill and while not major did a few quids worth of damage. My bike was collected by a specialst bike recovery agent at the roadside with no dramas. I wish I had gone with the recommended repairer though. I insisted on staying local with the main dealer which was accommodated but they added items to the bill that wern't fitted and took an age and basically lied. Hastings took this up after I reported it to them which helped keep my claim down. All in all customer service only really matters when you need it and Hastings did alright. They don't get a 10 because of the charges they add for moving house or when you change bikes mid policy. On this front they are robbing gits. On renewal after my claim they wernt the cheapest but 12 months later they are again so I am back with them. As a side with any policy see what your quote is without declaring security devices and even see what it's like when parked on the drive instead of garaged. It didn't make too much difference to me and it leaves them less chance to find a get out if your bike is nicked. Friends experienced this when he got the bike out the garage and left it at the front while got ready to ride. In less than 10mins the bike was nicked and with no security fitted (about to ride it) and it not in the garage as declared has had a nightmare with the insurance company - thus wasn't Hastings but is made as a general point to consider.

Hassle free

My car was driven into when parked and empty. Hastings Direct had my car assessed, offered me a courtesy car, and when they wrote off my car as a total loss, offered me a reasonable price for it. A cheque for the amount they offered arrived shortly...

My car was driven into when parked and empty. Hastings Direct had my car assessed, offered me a courtesy car, and when they wrote off my car as a total loss, offered me a reasonable price for it. A cheque for the amount they offered arrived shortly afterwards. Hassle free so far (apart from some of the companies working on their behalf re-asking for the same info). Got their premium insurance with zero excess for much less than other car insurers.

Hasting provide simple insurance, good customer service and great rates.
While they are transparent about fees etc at the start of your insurance, I believe they should do a little more to reduce them (cancellation, changes etc.) as technological advances make these "Admin" fees a little outdated.

Example is a cancellation fee of £45 (cars/vans after 14 days) will take around 30 seconds to process, giving them an hourly "Admin" rate of £5400 per hour.
There is no more of administrators running between offices and filing cabinets with cancellation documents and records posted between underwriters and brokers.
Please understand that this isn't a slight on Hastings specifically, but the insurance industry in general. Hastings has the opportunity to buck this trend and become a frontrunner in fee-free (or low fee) insurance.

Easy to get hold of

Every time I have rung, I get through right away. The people are friendly and easy to talk to. Only issue as with all car insurance companies is the renewal quotes are ridiculous. However when you try as a new customer it's always so much cheaper....

Used to be a customer but no longer. Tried to contact them about very expensive renewal which happens every year who the reduce cost. However this year wasted so much time trying to contact them and on last occasion told not to bother as list of people waiting was too long and try another time. I have to ring to cancel policy but will expect to wait hours as have done 4 times times. Used to be good but customer comes last now.

I have just been chatting to my friend & felt compelled to write something in the vain attempt that someone at Hastings Direct would read this, feel ashamed & pull their finger out.
So, my friend insured his Land-Rover with Hastings in January 2017, for the value that he purchased it for less than 2 years ago, based on the fact they are not depreciating, & obviously paid a premium to do so.
Over 5 weeks ago it was stolen from his place of work. After him chasing them on numerous occasions, and discovering that Hastings will have no involvement in the claim, but pass it to a 3rd party (after being passed to several other parties), he has just received an offer from the final 3rd party for considerably less than the value he insured the vehicle for 7 months ago and does not include the insured belongings inside. The offer is based on what the 3rd party is allowed to make, and if he wishes to contest it, he needs to contact Hastings, who have obviously passed on his details and it is no longer their issue. The ever decreasing circle.
If my friend had been responsible for an accident, he would have received a courtesy car, but as his vehicle was stolen (which they have agreed after sending an investigator to his house to interview him) he is not entitled to any assistance.
Their tag line is "Refreshingly straightforward car insurance". As long as you don't mind dealing with several 3rd parties, who eventually offer you a fixed amount, thousands below the amount you insured the vehicle for that they can not discuss further.
Additional information (worth reading. Honest)
My friend lost his wife recently, and used what he had to purchase the Land-Rover mentioned. He did so, to take his son, who is 4 years old camping. Specifically to give him something to look forward too.The booked camping trip was this week, and my friend has implored Hastings to resolve this situation to allow them to purchase a vehicle and not break the promise to his child. Their response, and this is the bit worth waiting for was "I'm afraid that is not my problem".
