Not the simplest of credit cards Difficult to activate. Difficult to make on line payments. Just difficult all round, and no high street branch for 20 miles.. I've cut mine up. Reviewed on: 16th September 2025

Useful in some contexts

Credit card is helpful for unexpected costs that I want a bit more time to pay off, but given the low credit limit it can be more harmful than beneficial, as going above 50% doesn't reflect well on my credit score. Inclined not to use it much, which kind of defeats the point a bit, but it's come in handy at times. Not in love with it, but it does the job to some extent. Reviewed on: 31st March 2023

Total chaos

Applied for credit card and filled all details in including my direct debit details . Application was accepted I received my card then did a balance transfer. Came to first payment and I missed it. The bank gave me a black mark on my credit file. I complained and it turned out that it was the bank fault for not setting up mt direct debit . I won my case . But my credit file took a hit for 5 weeks until the hsbc changed the black mark to a banking error . Don't bank with HSBC Reviewed on: 21st March 2023

I have had credit cards and loans with HSBC over the past 15-years and they have always been great value, with excellent promotions and offers. I now have all my personal and business banking with HSBC. Reviewed on: 7th March 2023

Absolute worst bank and customer service

The absolute worst bank and customer service I have ever experienced. Charging random cash advance fees and dynamic currency conversion fees, with vendors that I have used before and no other bank has ever charged me such fees for. Charging me interest for outstanding balances when my balance is always paid off well within the monthly payment deadline. Tried to contact customer service via securemail, chat function, call centre, and email – securemail and mail never get a response, chat function takes three hours to respond and have incompetent untrained reps who provide generic answers that aren’t helpful, call centre similarly know nothing and can’t action anything. Refund finally agreed, and was promised to be in my account within 3-5 working days, and still haven’t appeared after a month. Disgraceful and disgusting how a large bank can treat their customers with no respect and get away with it. Reviewed on: 10th October 2022
