Review of the John Lewis, Partnership credit card:

Why change to New Day and lose credibility?

1
Had a partnership card for over 30 years, always smoothly. Now New Day are involved and I get a letter telling me my emails are not reaching me. Given log in puts me on a black screen with JOHNLEEISCREITCARD.COM in blood letters with links to credit cards that have nothing at all to do with John Lewis cards. Spelling wrong and looks like it’d been done by a hacker or a child. Lost all confidence cut up my card and rang New Day they are hopeless Reviewed on: 8th November 2022

John Lewis - Newday Credit card

1
My bank paid my direct debit but Newday verbally claim not have received the money even though it is showing on their app as a payment received my my bank. Reviewed on: 10th March 2026

The fraud alert system is not fit for purpose.

1
The fraud alert system blocks the card and does not allow easy confirmation of transaction to clear. This means that the card can be blocked for days. In addition their response and customer services do not work after 7pm. Cheap and lazy. Reviewed on: 9th March 2026

Poor Customer Service for long standing customers

1
Having had a John Lewis credit card for almost 20 years and paying it off in full, on time, every month I wanted to increase the credit limit in order to buy goods from John Lewis for my new home but was refused outright without any discussions or checks. I was able to switch to a new credit card provider with the limit I needed very quickly and have closed my card with John Lewis. I felt it was really disappointing service to a loyal and long term customer. Reviewed on: 7th March 2026

AVOID the JOHN LEWIS CREDIT CARD

1
I have had a JL credit card for over 10 years , paid off in full every month. I returned from holiday having cleared my card to buy a coffee. The card was blocked. Once home I looked at my account, because of a late purchase I was £5.25 overdrawn for 2 days. On my account in red was an aggressive, we have blocked your card , will report you and charge £12.00. On phoning they cancelled the £12.00 I wrote to the CEO of Lewis. This complaint was flipped over to Newday, who couldn't care less . They have now charge £4.93p interest. I spend over £12K a year from Waitrose . So tomorrow I will warn everyone I know to cancel their card. This is no way to treat loyal customers. Shame on you John Lewis. JL Partnership card unrewarding

The John Lewis Partnership card used to have fantastic rewards, but recently this has changed and they are now very poor, even for spending within the Partnership. Reviewed on: 19th February 2026

The JLP card offers cashback based upon spending and it is possible to generate £100+ cashback per year. Managing the account is straightforward via their website or app. On the rare occasion I have needed to contact them by telephone I have received prompt service. Reviewed on: 22nd January 2026

balance transfers failure.

1
Newday have changed their bank account details which means any balance transfers attempted via other banks send the money to their old bank account. Newday refuse to accept or understand this and continue to try and blame the customer for the issue. It seems the online card details for these transactions is held by Newday not the customer but what would I know after 40 years is IT. Reviewed on: 15th January 2026

Lost my £3000 payment to my Partnership card

1
Lost my £3000 payment to my Partnership card through their app for 2 weeks, causing much stress and many phone calls trying to get my money back - as if I was to blame - I had to find who had stolen my money in effect - diabolical shambles and then a short dismissive letter from Partnership card - PayDay / NatWest payment system or whoever represents them saying sorry for the inconvenience- go elsewhere - I have! Reviewed on: 12th November 2025

New Day are a shambles.

1
New Day are a shambles. My bank does not recognise New Day’s new account. Why does John Lewis subcontract their services incapable companies that do not share their values? Just stick to your core business.. my rating refers to New Day’s, not to John Lewis stores, though the6 need to sharpen up their customer service there too. Reviewed on: 4th November 2025

Issues encountered with NewDays new payment instruction

1
Like another review, I've encountered issues with NewDay's new account information and not being updated to banks. Had a heated discussion with a representative of their complaints department, who informed me that 'some' banks had updated there lists. Some.... is not 100%. Eventually First Direct managed to send a test payment successfully, but it should not have been such a convoluted manner. I should have been able to set NewDay as a new bill, and not encountered all these issues. Newday just blamed First Direct, but was unable to provide any information for me to challenge First Direct with. Having never missed a payment with John Lewis, I will be applying for a different credit card. I have complete confidence in First Direct, zero confidence in Newday, which is giving John Lewis Partnership a bad reputation. Reviewed on: 3rd November 2025
