Monzo offer a free bank account for under 16s, with controls set by their parent or guardian.

Kids get their own neon card and can see their money in the Monzo app. Parents or Guardians can keep an eye on the account, set spending limits and schedule pocket money.

Delighted to use under 16s accounts

As a Monzo customer was delighted when they launched the under 16s accounts. Switched my kids from GoHenry to Monzo and best decision ever. They are learning how to save in pots, manage their money and I can send pocket money weekly from one of my pots which is a great way for me to manage this! Reviewed on: 6th March 2026

Best under 16s account

My daughter has had Monzo under sixteen for a few years now. This is her third under 16 account with other banks. So it is easier to make a comparison. It’s child friendly, it’s linked to my main account so I can see in real time how she deals with her accounts, I love the pot features as it encourages her to save, you can customise the account with different colours and upload photographs for your saving pots also the debit card itself are vibrant colours. The other accounts she had were not user friendly. I do t have direct access to the account so was not aware of her spending habits etc. As she will be turning 16, this will be her main account and to see how her account transition to a normal account. Brilliant app and do easy to use.

This account was so easy to set up, it was straight forward and all while in the comfort of my home. Since setting this account up my son loves the fact that he can see what he's got in this bank, we pay his pocket money in each week to him, and when he completes his home work in time he will get rewarded a little more. He says he is saving to buy a new Playstation Game, when he got his pocket money in cash he would just spend spend but now he's in control of his money and he knows what he needs to put away each week to save for his Game. The app is so easy to use, you can transfer money from your own account to your child's account in seconds. Reviewed on: 6th March 2026
